Art and History of this Hermès Scarf
While some claim that the Game of the Goose originated in ancient India and that it is a symbolic and playful version of the "Wheel of Birth and Death," one of the earliest mentions of the game dates back to 1617 in a work dedicated to chess. The author states that the Game of the Goose was invented in Florence, Italy. Gianpaolo Pagni thus seemed the perfect choice to take hold of and reinterpret this 19th-century variant, preserved in the Emile Hermès collection. The squares, arranged in an ellipse rather than a circle, feature original graphic motifs drawn using Gianpaolo Pagni's stamp technique. And so, the Game of the Goose is transformed into the Silk Game.
