With Confidents of Hearts , Loïc Dubigeon pays homage to the teddy bear, a universal object of tenderness and childhood memories. At the very beginning of the 20th century, in Germany, after years of drawing bears at a zoo, Richard Streiff began making plush replicas for his aunt's toy factory. At the same time, on the other side of the Atlantic, during a hunt, President Theodore Roosevelt, nicknamed "Teddy" (a nickname he detested), refused to kill a black bear that the hunt organizers had tied to a tree. This anecdote became the subject of a cartoon in the famous Washington Post. Morris Michtom, a confectioner from Brooklyn, saw the cartoon in the newspaper and made a soft little bear, which he placed in his shop window with the sign "Teddy's Bear." The toys were an immediate success, and Michtom founded his company. The teddy bear became the most faithful companion of childhood. At once the guardian of sleep and the confidant of small sorrows and great joys... "The confidant of hearts."
